Nothing occurs by accident. On February 22, 1855, then Pennsylvania Governor James Pollock signed the charter that created what is at the moment, The Pennsylvania State University. Initially a small faculty dedicated to the research of scientific agriculture, Penn State was designated the Commonwealth’s sole land-grant establishment in 1863, and has grown to grow to be one of many world’s most distinguished public universities.
